Update on the seagull seascape painting. Added a bit more to all of the seagulls, more highlights and shading to the pilings, and ropes around pilings and connecting them.
Now the painting needs to dry so I can then put a slightly greenish brown wash over the rope - give it that weathered, sea-algae coated look. Right now the rope is too white. Here is a break in the art week action: FOOD! I'm no gourmet, but today I did a pork roast, something I 've never cooked before, using a slow cooker I've never used before, with a recipe no one I know has ever tried before. And it was GREAT!!!!! Even I, the non-chef in the house (my husband is that), managed to do it. My gift to all of you on a Sunday evening: the recipe!
8 hours in a slow cooker and it fell apart and the apples became syrupy applesauce. Enjoy!!!!

And the attached video, from the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute gives a REAL glimpse into how graceful and beautifully fluid these creatures are. Enjoy!

Let's switch animals for a moment from dolphins to sea turtles, another favorite of mine. And maybe a personal connection. My mother-in-law always promised to come back as a sea turtle and I bet she kept her word. :)
I've painted sea turtles, and will be doing a new painting shortly for a friend, that will be an undersea shot of a sea turtle, but this blog entry has to do with injured critters and a wonderful place I visited a summer or two ago, that does amazing rescue work....

The Post – Dolphins: An Ethical Problem
January 8, 2011 by debrabailey
Has anyone ever thought about dolphins in amusement parks / aquariums and wondered if they were happy? I have to admit I never thought about it much. I figured if they were kept humanely, fed well, kept active and busy, that was good. But maybe that’s not the case.
