More on seagull seascape

January 17th, 2011

Update on the seagull seascape painting. Added a bit more to all of the seagulls, more highlights and shading to the pilings, and ropes around pilings and connecting them.

Now the painting needs to dry so I can then put a slightly greenish brown wash over the rope - give it that weathered, sea-algae coated look. Right now the rope is too white. The two gulls on the left are getting closer but need to dry before I can put in some defining highlights and shadows on the feathers, eyes and...

Even Artists Must Eat

January 16th, 2011

Here is a break in the art week action: FOOD! I'm no gourmet, but today I did a pork roast, something I 've never cooked before, using a slow cooker I've never used before, with a recipe no one I know has ever tried before. And it was GREAT!!!!! Even I, the non-chef in the house (my husband is that), managed to do it. My gift to all of you on a Sunday evening: the recipe!

I did that with my squid painting at this site. And the attached video, from the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute gives a REAL glimpse into how graceful and beautifully fluid these creatures are. Enjoy!

Time to Talk Turtle

January 12th, 2011

Let's switch animals for a moment from dolphins to sea turtles, another favorite of mine. And maybe a personal connection. My mother-in-law always promised to come back as a sea turtle and I bet she kept her word. :)

I've painted sea turtles, and will be doing a new painting shortly for a friend, that will be an undersea shot of a sea turtle, but this blog entry has to do with injured critters and a wonderful place I visited a summer or two ago, that does amazing rescue work....

Dolphins are Humans too

From my blog Soul Mosaic

The Post – Dolphins: An Ethical Problem
January 8, 2011 by debrabailey

Has anyone ever thought about dolphins in amusement parks / aquariums and wondered if they were happy? I have to admit I never thought about it much. I figured if they were kept humanely, fed well, kept active and busy, that was good. But maybe that’s not the case.

For any of you nature lovers who want to know just want "the case" is, just click on "Read More" then on...
